Weekday Programs

During the months of June, July & August, an hour-long wildlife program featuring birds of prey & reptiles will be conducted

at 2:00 p.m. Monday - Friday in the Center's Lecture Hall. 

The cost for the program is $3 per person, and children ages 3 & under are admitted free.

 

Weekend Programs

The Center for Wildlife Education is open to the public on Saturday's from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.  A reptile program is held on each Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall and a flighted raptor program is held at 3:00 p.m. in the Amphitheater.

Closed on weekends during the months of June, July & August

2008 Private Art Classes

Private art classes for children will be held at the Wildlife Center on June 30, July 7, and July 14, 2008, and will be taught by Nina Freifeld-Giles, artist and Bulloch County art teacher! Join us for some summer fun! The class is limited to five students and those attending will be drawing birds and owls in pencil, colored pencil, and pastels (supplies bought by students). Class time will be 10 a.m.-11 a.m. each morning for three sessions, and will run 30 minutes for children ages 5 and 6, and one hour for older children (open to all ages). Cost will be $10.00/30 minutes for younger students, and $20.00/hour for older students. Additional sessions will be open if needed to keep class size small. Also, art lessons will be offered in the fall at Ms. Giles home. Call Nina Freifeld-Giles at 587-3763 to reserve your spot! (Moms and Dads are welcome to join, too!)

 

 

Year Round Programs

Campout Adventures

The Center for Wildlife Education is pleased to offer overnight camping in conjunction with programs suited for scouting and youth groups, educator training workshops, environmental groups, science camps, church groups, families, and more. The campground is available by reservation year round.

The campground features:

  • 20 individually marked camp sites (Capacity: minimum 10 campers and maximum of 80 campers).

  • Multiple fire locations.

  • Restroom facilities for men and women (no showers).

  • Campsite is gated for added security.

  • Campground is located in a mixed forest.

  • Tent rentals available upon request.

  • Wildlife and ecology education programs available upon request.

Group Campout adventures (includes tents, sites for up to 80 people, 7:30 p.m. wildlife encounter program & snack):

  • $20 non-refundable deposit

  • $80 for up to 40 people ($3.50 for each additional person)

Family Campout adventures (includes tents, dinner & breakfast, night snack, firewood for pavilion camp ring, and a 7:30 p.m. wildlife encounter program):

  • $10 non-refundable deposit

  • $40 for a family of 4 ($3.50 for each additional person)

Fall 2007 - Wildlife in Science Education:  WINS Workshops

Wildlife in Science Education is a dynamic professional development workshop offered by the Center for Wildlife Education at Georgia Southern University for teachers Grades 3-5, 7 and 9-12!!!  You will have the choice of earning 2 or 3 PLU credits based on Georgia Performance Standards with opportunities for hands-on learning with live animals, as well as content rich break-out sessions on Georgia's habitats, animal classification, evolution/natural selection, and much much more!!!

Fall 2007 - Youth Art Lessons

Private art classes for children at the Georgia Southern University Wildlife Center, taught by Nina Freifeld-Giles, artist and Bulloch County art teacher. Join for some artistic fun! The classes will be limited to five students. Students will be drawing animals (including birds of prey) in pencil, colored pencil, and pastels (supplies bought by students).          Session I - October 15, 22, and 29

Class times will be 4 p.m. each date, and will run 45 minutes for children in 1st-2nd grades, fee: $15; and 1 hour for children in 3rd grade and up, fee: $20. If needed, additional sessions will be opened to keep class size small. Call Nina at 587-3763 to reserve your spot! (Moms and Dads are welcome to join, too!)

 

Thanks for 10 WILD Years!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anniversary Celebration

It's hard to believe, but October 2007 marks the 10th year anniversary for the Center for Wildlife Education.  To say Thanks for 10 WILD Years, the Center staff is putting together an event to remember on Saturday, October 27, 2007. 

 The anniversary activities are open to the public and are set to kick-off at 3:00 p.m. through 11:00 p.m.  Plans are in place for a host of fun family-style activities.  Join us for an afternoon and evening of food, kids activities, guest speakers with exotic wildlife presentations, trick or treating at the Campground, a magic show, fireworks, and music and refreshments under the pavilion. Steve Scruggs, Okefenokee Joe, Chestatee Wildlife Preserve, and Magic Marc will be joining the Wildlife Center to bring you a day filled with education and entertainment.   All events and programs are FREE!!!  Call 912-681-0831 for more information.
