On-site Programs:
SELF-GUIDED TOURS:
Self guided tours are available year-round at the Center for Wildlife Education at Georgia Southern University. Parking passes for visitors are available in the Center's gift shop.
SUMMER PROGRAMS: (June - August)
During the months of June, July & August, an hour-long Wildlife Program featuring birds of prey & reptiles will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, in the Center's Lecture Hall. The cost for the program is $3 per person, and children ages 3 & under are admitted free. Parking passes for visitors are available in the Center's gift shop.
Down-To-Earth Encounter:
This is a hands-on experience highlighting three important Georgia ecosystems. Visitors explore, locate and identify, with the help of our exhibit field guide, more than 50 different species of wildlife.
Guided Habitat Walkway Tour:
Your group will enjoy a walking tour of 8 habitat stations with live birds of prey on exhibit. The ecosystems and the ecology of the birds themselves are discussed and explained.
Gift Shop:
Our shop carries a wide variety of items, all with a wildlife theme. Items are priced to the nickel and tax is included to make figuring easier. For groups of very young children we will provide gift bags for each child so that each child gets a little something to take home. Prices start at $0.25.
Flighted Raptor Demonstration:
Raptors are brought before the audience in the amphitheater on the fist and then presented in a flight demonstration. Hawks, owls, falcons, eagles and vultures are all a part of our cast, but working with animals is an adventure, so the script changes daily.
Children's Discovery Trail:
This winding adventure trail takes visitors past interesting stations with all manner of natural artifacts. Snake skins, turtle shells and deer antlers, as well as frog and snake skeletons, owl pellets, birds’ nests, and turtle eggs are on display. Also on display is an opossum and skunk exhibit, along with an animal tracks sandbox and a kid’s eagle nest.
Ecology Pavilion:
The open air pavilion seats 120 visitors for lunch or for educational programs. The Pavilion must be reserved in advance.
Advice for Groups:
All educational programs are by reservation only. Wear comfortable shoes. We will arrange pavilion and indoor programs during bad weather. Restrooms and water fountains are available on site. Picnics are permitted, but must be reserved. In consideration of our incredible volunteers, and of other groups, PLEASE BE PUNCTUAL!!!
Campground:
The Center for Wildlife Education is pleased to offer overnight camping for scout and youth groups, educator workshops, environmental groups, family gatherings and reunions, club retreats and many other groups.
The campground features:
20 individually marked campsites
Capacity: minimum of 10 campers and maximum of 80 campers.
Multiple campfire locations.
Restroom facilities (without showers) for men and women.
Campgrounds are gated for added security.
Located in mixed forest setting.
Tent rentals available upon request.
Campers may reserve campgrounds with or without Wildlife Center staff guided wildlife programs.
