Nature Fun Time
Introduce your preschooler to nature and wildlife at the Center for Wildlife Education this summer. Each Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in June and July (except July 2) we will read an exciting book about wildlife. Then we’ll bring out some of the animals mentioned in the book or related to the story for an up-close encounter. Each program will end with a hands-on activity or craft.
June 4, 2013 – Ready, Set, WAIT!Hurricane season officially starts on June 1st. Have you ever wondered what animals do in case of a hurricane? Do they know if it’s coming? If so, how do they prepare? This exciting book explains how nine animals sense, react, and prepare for a hurricane.
June 11, 2013 – Where Should Turtle Be?introduces young children to four kinds of turtles, their characteristics, descriptions and various habitats. This cleverly woven story entertains youngsters as they try to figure out just where the little turtle belongs.
June 18, 2013 – Fur and Feathers
howling winds whisk the fur and feathers right off her animal friends, she shares her clothes with them, but her clothing just doesn’t seem to work. Listen as animals line up to explain what they need and why.
June 25, 2013 – Baby Owl’s Rescue
you found a baby owl in your backyard? Join young Maddie and Max as they learn a valuable lesson from a little lost owl.
July 9, 2013 – Bullfrog at Magnolia Circle
the banks of the bayou on a warm, wet southern evening. A bullfrog sits near the water’s edge behind a white wooden house on Magnolia Circle. Hear the story about the obstacles and challenges a bullfrog has as he tries to find the perfect spot to start calling for a mate.
July 16, 2013 – Who’s that Singing in the Trees and Fields?
in nature before you see it. Now you can experience that sense of wonder. Bold and beautiful pictures show off eight familiar birds in their natural surroundings. With birds chosen for their easy to remember calls you can build your listening and observation skills to be used later in the outdoors.
July 23, 2013 – An Egg is Quiet
this book introduces children to more than 60 types of eggs and an interesting array of egg facts. This fascinating story is equally at home being read to a child on a parent’s lap as in a classroom reading circle.
July 30, 2013 – Count Down to Fall
fall is around the corner. Count backwards from ten to one during one of the most colorful times of the year – fall. Learn about the bright leaves and the animals frolicking in the crisp fall air as they get ready for the approaching winter chill.
