Greetings From
President Bruce Grube

Welcome to Georgia Southern University!

We are pleased that you are visiting our Web site, and hope it won’t be long before we can welcome you, in person, to our beautiful campus.

I’d like you to know a few of the things that give Georgia Southern the advantage over other universities. These themes will become clear as you explore this site and then join us in Statesboro.

Georgia Southern is a university of academic distinction. Our classification as a national doctoral-research institution by the Carnegie Foundation positions us as the only such university south of Atlanta until well into Florida. Our freshman class is the most talented in our history, with an average SAT score well above the state and national averages. We remain a top choice for Georgia Hope scholars, and opportunities abound in our University Honors Program. Classes here are taught by professors, not graduate assistants.

We are also a student-centered university. We offer the classic residential campus experience in an inviting college town. Close-knit and personal are the words that best describe our community of learners.

We are a university that makes the most of advanced technology. Wireless networks, state-of-the-art equipment in labs and studios alike, and a massive automated book retrieval system in the heart of our expanded library are just a few examples. Our College of Information Technology is one of the first of its kind in the nation.

We are committed to providing transcultural opportunities. Georgia Southern students study abroad year round. Eighty-six nations are represented in our diverse student body. Visiting international faculty members and students can always be found in our classes. And our research increasingly makes a global impact.

We enjoy numerous partnerships at Georgia Southern. Much of our research funding results from relationships we’ve built with foundations and agencies. The results of our work are often directly applied through community partnerships throughout the Southeast. Many of the unique features and amenities of our campus come from the generous support of our donors.

Speaking of amenities, the physical environment of our campus sets it far apart from other schools. The landscape and architecture alone make Georgia Southern’s one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation. When you add a Recreational Activities Center that puts most health clubs to shame, an array of campus housing and dining options, a complete line-up of Division I athletics, a Main Street town and the nearby Georgia Coast, then you’re talking about a one-of-a-kind college experience.

These are exciting days in the life of our institution. We’re celebrating our Centennial, with several events and activities planned, culminating with Homecoming 2007.

Explore our Web site and also take a look at a brief video that gives you a sense of the students and faculty members who make this a special place.

Sincerely,

Bruce Grube,
President
