No need to schedule a tour or walk through
the Garden with more questions than answers. Take advantage of the
materials we have to offer in Bland Cottage, including our Explorer
Backpacks. The Explorer Backpacks are self-guided activities contained in backpacks that you can do with your family and friends as you tour the Garden. Just go inside the Cottage, check out a backpack from the Cottage Greeter on duty, and explore. Activities include bird watching, identifying butterflies, learning the history of the Bland farm, finding out how and why carnivorous plants digest animals, smelling herbs in the vegetable garden, and learning the importance of fallen logs in the forest. In addition to activity suggestions, you’ll find other useful materials such as magnifying lenses, binoculars, identification books, and pencil and paper for recording what you find.
